Some of you may remember the orchard we planted on Mandela Day at Bramble Primary School in Bonteheuwel. After seeing how well the fruit trees were doing in our first visit, an additional 120 trees were delivered to them for the school's community tree-planting events.

We challenge you to see what you can do in your community, after all, “The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn” #QuoteOfTheDay #TreeCo.
Can you guess the weight?

By measuring a tree’s size by litres, it’s easy to forget just how much they actually weigh. From the fun and interesting videos on our Facebook page, you will see that we routinely use cranes and heavy duty trucks to lift and move our bigger beauties from the TreeCo nursery to their new homes. When we had to plant a majestic yet massive 3000L, 85 year old Calamata Olive tree in Franschoek, Sean Williams, owner of Crane Truck Hire, was kind enough to help out on short notice and came out personally to oversee the rigging and moving of the tree.

Have you ever seen what 2 500 new baby shrubs look like? These babies were planted this August and are our first sneak-peek showcase of TreeCo’s new lines that we are growing. Viburnum sinensis, Viburnum tinus, Syzygium paniculatum, Searsia crenata, Tarkonanthus camphoratus, Trachelospurnum jasminoides and Durante gold. When they are ready they will be used as instant hedges.

But those babies aren’t the only newest features we’re flashing here at TreeCo. To match our ongoing success, we would like to introduce a new face to the TreeCo team, Jean van der Burgh, who has stepped into the position of Nursery Production Manager. Jean, we warmly welcome you as the newest addition to our family as we, like TreeCo trees, grow from strength to strength.

We open this new month with the exciting news of having just transformed a steeply inclined berm on one of Franschoek’s most luscious estates. Rudi and his crew were on site working their TreeCo magic as expert botanists and landscapers. Only three days in, the owner of the property (a well known South African businessman) was so enthralled he kept adding things to his Berm-transformation wish-list – an exciting and challenging job for Rudi as he continues to provide original and ecologically sound solutions to the problem of the berm’s current state. ‘Before and After’ photos of this upheaval on our Facebook page.

TreeCo is proud to announce a new partnership with a well established and renowned organisation in the green industry – Master Organics, who will be selling our trees on a retail basis. In other news, we’ve been busy doing some more work for clients we love working with (thank you Buddy Smit and De Kleijne Bos Guestfarm for your continued support).

Last month, TreeCo partnered up with Greenpop again, celebrating the Zambia Festival of Action HYPE on the 18th of Feb. This funky event, held at the German Club, raised awareness and funds for the festival, where a plethora of volunteers from around the globe plant thousands of trees in South Africa and Zambia. Lucky competition winners at the HYPE won a free week in Zambia during the festival.

TreeCo was back in Manenburg for the third time this year, planting additional big trees. So far 213 trees have been planted in this community-uplifting project (alongside Haw & Inglis and Good Hope Construction), overseen by AECOM. Furthermore, DGB used our services again for the Franschoek Cellar as another 40 trees were purchased for the surrounding areas. Another exciting job, for the supplier to Woolworths, LeBombo, came our way. We are so happy to have helped plant 46 of our trees at their factory on the R44.

Back on the home front, another 200lt trees have been rebagged and we are pleased to announce that the Liquedamber styraciflua (Sweet gum) 50lt are now ready.

Rudi’s Amageza trip went down well, no damage done to him, or to his bike for that matter! The trip started in Upington and ended with a big party in Big Bay. Rudi was also kind enough to sponsor a group of drivers with clothing gear.
