As from November 2016, TreeCo started giving 20% less water; in February 2017, we went down another 20% and in March another 20%. So it’s been a total of 60% less water for our trees over the past couple of months. At this point, TreeCo waters only once a week, producing more hardy trees. We suggest you do the same.

Additionally, we recommend keeping an eye on the weather. If you plant trees now, they will be ready for winter's rainfall. Remember, global warming is very much a reality and the more trees we can plant, the better. Trees are a good investment for your future.

Well, after a well deserved break, we’re back, ready to take on 2016. We trust you’ve had a wonderful holiday and that all loved-ones are back safe and ready for this year. With your continued support and business, we’ve spent the month ‘spring’-cleaning TreeCo and are almost back in tip-top shape. There is quite a lot of work to be done but nothing is ever too big a job or too much to handle.

The Cape Town Trade Show, held on the18th of March, saw the city’s greenest fingers come together in the Grand West Arena. Along with the opportunity to show off TreeCo trees in our jungle-like stand, we forged an exciting new relationship with well-known Starke Ayres and are looking forward to many collaborative years ahead.

The king of South African flora, Mr. Keith Kirsten, was also there and took some time to chat to Rudi before giving TreeCo his grade A approval, a great reaffirmation that TreeCo trees really are superior in quality and method of growing. That was not the only positive feedback we received at the show, special thanks go out to everyone who gave such positive responses to our work. Photos of us in action are on our Facebook page.

Special thanks go out to Servest for making a dent in our tree collection over the last few weeks, we appreciate your loyal use of our services. Another highlight this month has been the successful transplanting of 3 Erythrina caffras (commonly known as Coral Tree), medium to large deciduous trees that are best moved in Summer while they are dormant. To see live action of these trees being moved and bagged, watch Rudi's video here.

This month’s tree special is the Rhus / Searsia pendulina (White Karee) – 100L – 2,8m and 5cm stems available. These trees thrive in sandy soil with loads of sun; they have a large root system and can reach 7m to 15m in adulthood.

Please accept our open invitation to come and visit us at the nursery. Book an appointment via the office: 021 864 3046 or Rudi himself: 082 829 5543 to see how our organically grown nursery functions on a day to day basis.
Moving trees with TreeCo

It takes time and patience to get a massive tree placed in the right spot. From collecting to transporting and then delivering. So our next huge thanks goes out to Greg Muller from Moving Trees for always being a great help when we need crane trucks for our bigger beauties. Take a look at our Facebook page to see our big tree logistics in action.

One thing we’ve always been proud of here at TreeCo is our staff’s dedication. Not even a bit of overtime on a Friday afternoon could stop our team from delivering an outstanding service that resulted in three 1000L Olea missions being planted at De Aar Hospital. TreeCo is also proud to announce that we will be venturing into new, smaller grounds and soon will also have 10L and 20L stock available. Give Rudi a shout on 082 829 5543 for your big or small tree order.

Due to the rising cost of supplies, labour and maintenance, we at TreeCo have had to pass along a slight increase in our prices as of the 4th of April. Given the steady job we’ve done improving various aspects of our nursery’s production over the past seven months you can, as always, rest assured that TreeCo trees are amongst the absolute best trees in the Western Cape. In addition, all of our processes are environmentally friendly. You can contact the TreeCo office for our updated price list: info@treeco.co.za.

Growing trees and supplying them to all sorts of clients is certainly a perk of the job. In just one week at TreeCo, we greened a new school in Swellendam (with The Garden Shack), offered our services to a business park in Killarney Gardens for the first time (managed by De la Porte), and delivered trees to Mick at Hortolene in Constantia. VVD Projects supplied De Grendel Estate with our stock, GardenScapes completed a new development in Stellenbosch and Yokwana greened up a new sewage plant in Riebeeck with TreeCo trees. Stephan at Cape Rain had been under huge pressure at a new mall in Langeberg ridge, so our trees helped to ease the work load there. We proudly added Execuflora as a new client specialising in indoor plants, pots, flower arrangements and artwork.

TreeCo also had a visit from the team at Stellenbosch Municipality’s Million Trees, a massive community development project that is also running to tackle the threat of global warming. After showing them TreeCo trees and our growing process, they took some time to give us their feedback:
“Thank you so much for the opportunity that you afforded us yesterday.
It was wonderful having a look at all the beautiful trees in your nursery and quite educational, as we learnt about the various methods you use to produce such high quality trees. We look forward to doing business with you in the future."

Should you or your team want to visit us at the nursery, you can contact us directly.

While we know good deeds shouldn’t really be made public, we’ve just got to tell you about a brilliant initiative TreeCo had the privilege of pulling together thanks to an invite by one of our clients. The Destiny by Faith church in Ottery do a phenomenal job of helping the community and, after hearing about them wanting to improve their grounds, we couldn’t resist donating about 60 trees to start their own little Eden which will include a play area for the kids.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Di Irish from Cape Green Forum for inviting Rudi back for more Garden Talk Sessions at Bellville and Milnerton Stodels last month. Follow us on Facebook for details on any interesting future talks.

Back on home soil, our TreeCo team has done an amazing job of the ongoing replanting process we started last month with another 4 000 trees freshly bagged for purchase. Precision and careful handling becomes more important as we move into July given the capricious nature of the Cape of Storms’ winter months.
Plant, Plant, Plant

One of the things we truly believe in is to never stop planting and never stop growing. Over the last couple of months we have planted about 3000 x 20L, 2000 x 50L and 1000 x 100L trees.

Despite the drought, now is an excellent time for you to be planting as we are receiving small bouts of rain which means that we do NOT need to be watering our trees now. In fact, we at TreeCo have not watered the nursery in more than 2 months. By planting now, your trees will be acclimatizing to their new surroundings and need less water this coming summer. We have already been hardening off our trees off since November 2016 so planting NOW is essential.

Species proven to be all time winners during this time of year are Olea africana, Syzigium cordatum, and Syzigium guineese.
Please feel free to contact us for any help or advice needed at any stage of your landscaping projects.
You are awesome!
